Heading into Monday’s game as the underdog 11th seed facing off against the 6th seeded Holy Spirit, and facing low expectations due to a 2-14 season record, the Moorestown Friends boys soccer team nevertheless completed the upset with a 6-0 win.
The six goals were the most goals in any game this season.
Dean Simpson ’26 kicked off their success with the first goal of the game. Simpson also scored two more goals out of the six. Two more goals came from Alex Kostopoulos ’26, and the last goal of the game came from Ayaan Verma ’29, scoring his first career goal.

According to team manager Natalie Choi ’27, Willie Didie ’26, Aodhan DiPalma ’27, Henry Green ’28, and Charles McFadden ’27 all tallied an assist during the game.
Reid Lutz ’28, gave praise to his goalie Jack Anaya ’28 for keeping the ball out of the net with his two saves, notably resulting in zero goals for Holy Spirit.
Simpson had an impressive outing today, completing a hat-trick by scoring three goals.
After his game, Simpson said, “It was surreal, for sure. Usually I’m not in a role to be the one scoring, but I’m just happy my guys were able to get me the ball in the right spots and I was able to convert [the passes into goals].”
The boys soccer team will now take on Doane Academy on Wednesday, November 5, in an away game for the NJSIAA quarter-finals matchup.
