Mike Brunswick announced today that he will be stepping down as Dean of Students for the 2019-2020 school year. Instead, he will be teaching PE and Health classes as a full-time teacher for MFS.
Brunswick cited a “little more family time” as his primary reasoning for stepping down as Dean, and that “the long days and extra nights” associated with the job interfere with the time he spends with his family. Brunswick expressed his desire to “step up and get home, and spend more time there.” He also noted with enthusiasm that the change would allow him to “build more Legos” and have “more playground time” with his daughter.
While he is excited for his new role as a full time teacher, Brunswick also acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating, “It’s been a long time since I’ve done a full class load of phys ed and health.” Nevertheless, the change is a welcome one in his life.
Chris Kimberly, Associate Head of School, has confirmed he will be clerking the search for the new Dean. Kimberly also noted several challenges surrounding the search, mainly the late timing in the school year. Ideally, when searching for a replacement for a member of the MFS faculty, students would meet with prospective candidates. With the end of the school year approaching rapidly, this search will require a “tight turnaround time,” said Kimberly.
The job opening has not been formally posted as of now, yet Kimberly is confident that a qualified replacement will be found. “Mr. Brunswick leaves big shoes to fill,” he explained, “but we’re hopeful we can find someone strong who can step into those shoes.”
While outgoing faculty are not usually involved in the search for their replacements, Brunswick offered his advice to the next Dean of Students, stating, “I’m here to help, if there are any questions.”
