Excitement charged the Dining Hall Commons during Day Two’s Spirit Week event, Quiz Bowl. As the Upper School looked on, the six jeopardy-style categories were revealed to be MFS Tradition, Science, Math, Philadelphia, Star Wars, and Student Parent Handbook. As the four person teams from each grade settled into position, an anxious hush filled the room.
The seniors broke the silence, accumulating a significant lead right off the bat. They gained momentum as rounds progressed. The juniors began to tentatively rack up points, raising the possibly that they could creep up from behind.
It took just one question to fell the juniors: “When light bends as it enters another medium, the process is called ___?” The juniors wavered between the answers of “refraction” and “reflection.” They ultimately decided on the latter, which was incorrect.
It brought the juniors back to zero and allowed the freshmen and sophomores to enter contention for the scoreboard. However, the seniors’ momentum was unmatched. The final Quiz Bowl question (“What is two times four?”) marked the end of the event, with the seniors in first place, freshmen in second, sophomores in third, and juniors in last.
“It’s about time that this happened,” senior Kayla Vidal later shared with Wordsworth.
Currently, the sophomores are still leading the overall Spirit Week scoreboard. The seniors are in second, juniors are in third, and the freshmen are trailing behind.
