Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have announced that on July 29, they will release a new album, their first since 2010’s Mojo. Accompanying the album will be a world tour, including a stop at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on September 15th, 2014.
For those of you who don’t know Petty’s work, look it up. He has been a prolific rock and roll artist since the 1970s, from his eponymous debut album to Wildflowers to Echo (my personal favorite). Petty’s sound is a unique mix of rock and blues, although songs and even albums are often dominated exclusively by one genre. Mojo is all blues, while albums like Damn the Torpedoes are almost all rock and roll.
There really isn’t much information out about Hypnotic Eye yet, apart from this baffling trailer video. However, Petty has told Rolling Stone Magazine that the music will be “straight hard rockin’,” similar to the music from Petty’s first two albums, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and You’re Gonna Get It.
