On Thursday, January 28 he MFS Model U.N. Club travelled to Philadelphia to participate in the Ivy League Model United Nationals Conference, or ILMUNC, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. ILMUNC, a four-day conference commonly recognized as one of the most competitive in the country, has posed trouble for the MFS delegation in years past; this year, however, the team turned over a new leaf with seven students receiving recognition for their work. Sophomores Anna Goula and Ian Millstein received a Verbal Commendation for their work in the Political Security Committee of 1963. Junior and Technology Officer Alex Horn likewise received a Verbal Commendation in the Paris Commune crisis committee, while co-President Rachael Whitley partnered with Matthew Knowlton to be recognized with an Honorable Mention within the NGO Forum. Perhaps most notably, co-President and senior club member Jacob Schoifet partnered with his friend Zachary Day to achieve an Honorable Mention in the United Nations Commission on Human Rights; the award was the first in Jacob’s career from such a major conference as ILMUNC. Speaking of the teamwork displayed by the entire MFS delegation, and specifically thanking his own partner Zach Day, Schoifet commented: “Even LeBron needed Dwayne Wade to get his first ring.” Schoifet’s ability to turn a phrase will no doubt serve him well as he leads the MFS delegation to their next conference, which is in February at the University of Delaware.
