Over the last four years, MFS golfer Hannah Puc ’24 has led the golf team on an incredible run, for which she was recently recognized on the local news.
Puc was recently featured as the PHL17 Student-Athlete of the Week for her success and leadership demonstrated on the course. Puc led the golf team to Friends School League championships in 2021 and 2023, capturing the FSL individual trophy last season with a first-place score of 79.
Puc credits part of her success to the older teammates she has played with in the past.
“I’ve definitely become way more confident as I’ve gotten older. When I was a freshman, I played a lot with the upperclassmen and they taught me how to be confident in my game,” said Puc.
However, Puc’s golf game has not been the only standout throughout her high school career. Coaches and players alike have seen Puc grow into a great leader and captain for the golf team.
Joe O’Hara, coach of the golf team, said, “The growth I see from Hannah is from a leadership standpoint. She’s a really good player, and she’s always been a really good player. But, she always interacts with the team members and makes sure that their goals are aligned with the team goals.”
Vikram Verma ’25, Puc’s teammate, added, “I think [Puc] is a great captain and role model. She shows how we should all carry ourselves as people, but also on the golf course, and [she] is always giving us tips … on how we should approach each match.”
As she reaches the conclusion of her lengthy golf career, Puc is very proud to win this award.
“I’ve spent a lot of time playing this sport, and I’ve put a lot of years into it. Getting this award means a lot, I feel very accomplished and recognized for everything that I have done and I appreciate that.”
The MFS golf team is currently 8-2 overall and leads the Burlington County Scholastic League (BCSL) at 5-0 in the division. The team is preparing for a playoff run that they hope will lead them to a Non-Public B sectional championship.
“As a team, we have a goal of making the sectional playoffs for states, which only 8 teams in South Jersey Non-public B make. We moved to the BCSL this year, and there was some trepidation from some of our players about the new league, but our number one goal is to claim that title in our first year in the league and right now we are positioned well for that goal,” said O’Hara.
As Puc’s final high school season comes to an end, she looks back on her career positively.
“I love our team. I think what makes it special is that we have such a close bond. Being such a small group makes us so connected, and it’s just a great group of people that I’m really sad to leave behind.”
Puc plans to continue playing golf for the club team next year at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
