The last day of the 2022 school year is quickly approaching, and to close the year, Upper School students will have a modified schedule on June 8 and June 9. Both students and faculty reported being confused by this modified schedule, which starts with the 1:05 period on Wednesday, June 8. Here is a brief explanation of the schedule and how to follow it.
Thursday, June 9 will be a full day of school, and there will be no activity blocks or study halls on June 8 or 9. Instead, all Upper School students will use the following schedule.
To stick to this schedule effectively, it is imperative to know how to match each class to its respective block; this can be done easily on the myMFS portal. Under the “schedule” tab, look under the column titled “block.” The letters on the left of the “-US” are the block letters for each class.
To clear up lingering confusion, which Rachlin anticipated, he explained that the schedule was modified to “create a really clear dedicated time for a final class meeting for each [class] at the end of the school year in a way that we thought … presented an important opportunity for closure.”
He also clarified that if a student has Drivers’ Ed, a P.E./health class, or a study hall during any of the listed blocks, they will not have that class, and “[they’ll] effectively have a free period,” but noted that there will be designated places for students to be and that it is necessary for students to stay on campus during those blocks. This “free period” does not replace any Quakerism, LQD, or World Religions classes– those classes will still meet.
Though it says on the 2021-22 Important Dates document that Upper School will have a half day on June 10, this is no longer correct. Upper School students will have their last day on June 9, and the Commencement for the Class of 2022 will follow on June 11.
