On Monday, November 8, MFS students were met with a surprise: the long-awaited round tables returned to their spot in the Field House Commons. Students were happy to hear that they could finally use the tables again. Many expressed that they make the Field House a great place to spend time.
The tables were one of the many losses that students experienced when COVID-19 hit. They were removed due to the social distancing guidelines. Multiple rows of chairs replaced the space that the tables used to occupy. This frustrated students during study halls and free periods.
Students brought up their concerns about the missing Field House tables multiple times during Agenda meetings. Agenda clerks, Roma Jha ’22 and Andrew Mercantini ’23, noticed the demand for the return of the tables and decided to speak with administrators.
“We brought it to our clerk meeting and we said that [the tables are] something that people want in their study spaces,” Jha explained.
Jha continued, “When we finally heard [that the return of the tables was being considered], it was obviously really exciting because we know that it was more than just Agenda fighting for it; it was also other people as well.”
Students are enjoying all that the tables have to offer. Ava Blumberg ’24 said, “I am so happy that the tables are back. I think they make study halls easier and the Field House is a nice place to sit and talk to friends.”
Kathryn Sebastian ’22 agreed, “It’s nice to have the tables back as a place to socialize or get work done during free periods.”
The Field House Commons has returned to being a spot for students to work, socialize, and eat lunch.
