Most fall sports at MFS have concluded their postseason run. From sectionals to Friends League Championships, there were many ups and downs. All teams represented the Foxes through a lineup of intense playoff games.
Girls tennis finished 2nd overall in the Friends League, falling to Germantown Friends 3-2 in their championship match. Additionally, they placed second in the NJSIAA Non-Public B league after falling to Newark Academy 4-1.
First singles player Bella Pescatore ’22, who verbally committed to Mount Saint Mary’s earlier this year, commented that she “didn’t have many expectations at the start of the season,” but the team “had extremely good chemistry.”
Girls soccer defeated Shipley 3-0 in the Friends League semifinals but fell to Germantown Friends 6-2 in the finals. They shut out Doane Academy 7-0 in the first round of the NJSIAA tournament on Tuesday followed by a loss to Bishop Eustace 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
Goalie Alissa Fox ’23 said that beginning any sports season can be difficult with “everyone getting situated with each other and making sure everyone is on the same page.” Once everyone gets into the groove “it’s honestly like a little family.” Fox said that ending the season on a winning streak and as Friends League championship finalists is “something to celebrate.”
Friends Central defeated boys soccer 2-0 in the Friends League quarter finals. Additionally, they lost to Bishop Eustace 2-0 in the NJSIAA quarter finals, ending their experience in the NJSIAA bracket.
Sulayman Hussain ’23, who has been on the soccer team for three years, shared that this was “the best team chemistry” they’ve had. He said they “have a very young team” and he’s “excited for next year.”
The field hockey team fell to Shipley 7-1 in the Friends League semifinals and fell to Holy Spirit 1-0 in the first round of the NJSIAA Non-Public B Tournament.
Forward Tia Obermeier ’23 shared that reaching the semifinals was quite the accomplishment: “Our team worked really hard to get there and we bonded as a team.” She said that this season “showed how well our team could work together and get as far as we did.”
The boys cross country season is far from over. The team will travel to Holmdel to compete in the state race on Saturday, November 14. If any of the runners place in the top 10, they will qualify for the Meet of Champions on November 21.
