The Philadelphia restaurant scene has become one of COVID-19’s many victims. At least 23 of Philadelphia’s beloved restaurants, such as Bibou and Midtown III, have closed due to circumstances created by the pandemic. Other Philly favorites, such as Spice Finch and Gabi Restaurant, are temporarily closed as they continue to monitor city regulations. Additionally, the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association reported in a September 2020 survey that in Pennsylvania, “current staffing levels are only 63 percent of what they would typically be in the absence of COVID-19.” Restaurateurs wake up each morning knowing that there is a possibility that their restaurant could be the next to close: the next to succumb to the COVID-19 regulations.
On the Save Philly Restaurants podcast series, each episode will feature a pillar of the Philadelphia restaurant community and provide a unique perspective on the difficulties this industry currently faces. Tune in to learn about the impact of COVID-19 on restaurants and the initiative the industry is taking to combat these hardships.
In this episode, listen as I “sit down” with Top Chef veteran and restaurateur Chef Jennifer Carroll to talk about the impact of the pandemic on her restaurant, Spice Finch, and how she continues her philanthropic endeavors despite the obstacles posed by COVID-19.
