MFS participated in “Water Wednesday” on November 6. Rachel Kaplan, Lower School coding teacher and clerk for the Environmental Stewardship Committee, explained that Water Wednesday is an initiative created by the committee to discourage people from using plastic water bottles. During first period prep on Wednesday, the advisors tallied up a head count of how many students participated by bringing in their own reusable water bottles. The committee will also tallied up how many faculty members brought water bottles as well. The winners for faculty (Lower School) and students (Lower School) were announced via loudspeaker on Wednesday afternoon . Kaplan said, “Water Wednesday is just to get kids to start thinking about their choices regarding plastic water bottles.” The goal of this initiative is to involve students in trying to be more environmentally conscious.
Kaplan added, “it’s easy to purchase single use plastic and people don’t really think about their environmental impact.” Senior Alex Boller, who participated in the event, said that “Water Wednesday went well, and inspired me to use less plastic!” The committee decided to make Water Wednesday a long standing event that will occur each month. Hopefully, this will prove to the community how, as Kaplan said, “little things can impact the world in the big picture!”
