Wednesday, November 8 was a special day for the class of 2018. Two of its members, Suijin Kim and Alexis Watson, signed letters of intent to play sports for Division One colleges.

      Both of them had impressive high school careers, to say the least. Kim earned a silver medal in crew at US Junior Nationals and competed in the US Rowing Club Nationals. This past year she was featured in Coxswain Magazine and was a member of the Men’s Youth 4+ team that finished 11th in Nationals. She signed on for University of Michigan. “It was amazing, that’s a moment that I’ve worked for and hoped for, for over five years,” Kim said. “There’s a saying at Michigan: those who stay will be champions, so that was something that I stuck by for five years and yesterday was the culmination of those five years so that’s how it felt. It was awesome.”

      Watson is a three-time winner of MFS’s Floss Brudon award, given to a women’s lacrosse player who shows dedication, excellence and outstanding participation in the sport during the school year. She was also a three-time Friends School League all star and two-time team MVP, making her one of the most decorated lacrosse players in the program’s 50-plus year history. She scored 100 goals by her sophomore year and was a team captain as a junior. Watson signed on for Rutgers University. “It was crazy to sign at school, especially with all my friends and family being in attendance. It’s a huge milestone in my life, and Sujin’s, that I know meant even more with the support of our MFS community, friends, and families,” Watson said. Watson and Kim are not the only members of the class of 2018 who plan to sign letters of intent for D1 schools. The Athletic Department plans to host signing events for the other athletes as well, at dates to be determined.
