The MFS Girls’ Junior Varsity Soccer team captured first place in the 2015 Friends League JV Tournament on Saturday morning, the first time in school history that the Foxes have won the event.
MFS did not start the tournament brightly, losing tough opening games to both Germantown and Friends Select. Those games marked the total extent of the Foxes’ losses, though, as MFS went on to win the tournament with a 4-2 record.
Junior Lauren Buck, in her third year of the JV girls squad, commended her teammates on their character and perseverance. “The team never gave up, no matter what. Everyone played to the best of their ability.”
After their opening pair of losses, the Foxes changed their formation on the field. They won their next two games, barely making it through to the semifinals.
The team won its semifinal match and moved on to face Friends Central in the final. MFS won on penalty kicks, securing its first ever JV tournament win.
Sophomore Dakota Chambers, the team’s leading goal scorer, was happy with the effort and the result. “We deserved it. Everyone went out there and give it 125%. I couldn’t be prouder”.
The team currently holds a 6-2-1 record for the year. The girls will face Shipley on Tuesday in their final match of a very successful season.
