As you probably know, 2048 is the newest incarnation of Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, and Flappy Bird.  It’s an addictive mobile phone game that attracts users with its simple concept and design, catches on like wildfire, and ends up wasting glorious amounts of time.

What you might not know is that 2048 can be modified to replace the number blocks of the original game with whatever pictures you like. Instead of combining twos to make fours and fours to make eights, gamers can combine dogs to make cats and cats to make hockey players, or whatever else they can think of.

This would normally be nothing more than a minor amusement (indeed, these modified versions of the games have achieved nothing close to the popularity of the original), but some brilliant (anonymous) soul had the ingenious idea to replace the numbers with yearbook pictures of MFS teachers.

There’s something both absurdly fun and strangely disturbing about combining two Mrs. Van Tijns to make Mr. Clarke or two Mr. Gorntos to make Mr. Cotter. The teachers themselves seem both amused and confused. Upon asking Mr. Shallers how he felt about being included in the game, cast in the role of the 32 block, he said, “Well, I suppose I don’t have any control over that, now do I? I’m not going to get in trouble for it, right? So it’s fine.” When informed that two Mr. Thomson blocks made Mrs. Priscilla Taylor-Williams, who precedes Mr. Shallers’ block, followed by Mr. Gornto, Shallers said, “We’re all pretty good friends so that makes sense.”

Whether you’re a fan of the original game or not, this MFS-themed spin-off is worth trying. With finals approaching, we all might be in need of a chuckle at our teachers’ expense.
